Exploring Seasonal Energy: Spring is Here!

Spring equinox is a beautiful opportunity to lean into our own rebirth as the earth is also reborn. As the earth grows more energetic, the offering is that we can grow more energetic as well. Now is the time to plant and nurture seeds, to finalize the clearing of any old energy out to make room for the new beginnings stretched out in front of you- even if you cannot see or connect to them yet.

The Spring Equinox, also known as the vernal equinox or Ostara, marks the beginning of the spring season- bringing with it blooming flowers, budding trees, and a general feeling of renewal and energy. At this time we also have to take into consideration cleansing and clearing of the self and the home to ensure you have space available to invite in all you are trying to grow in your life.

The Spring equinox happens between the 20th-24th of March here in the Northern Hemisphere.

The spring equinox is one of four solar festivals that relate to the sun's position in the sky (this is where we get our seasonal divisions, the Spring Equinox, the Summer Solstice, the Autumn Equinox, and the Winter Solstice).

On the Spring equinox, night and day are of equal length, and following this, the days will grow longer than the nights (which means more daylight, yay, building to the peak of the longest day on the summer solstice in June).

“While the day of the equinox itself is about balance, it's important to remember that balance is fleeting, and the fact of the matter is true balance very seldom exists. Even on the equinox, depending on your location, night and day are still not completely equal. The farther you are from the equator, the bigger the difference between reality and equality. We can work to achieve balance, and work to maintain it, but truly keeping balance stable is a difficult task since life and circumstances are constantly changing. The equinox is also not only about balance. It's the beginning of the triumph of light over dark, warmth over cold, and day over night. It is the beginning of new life.”

  • Ostara, Llewellyn's Sabbat Essentials, pg.37

Up until 1752 when we switched from the Roman Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, March 25th was considered the beginning of the new year. This aligns well with the spring as new beginnings, and also the start of Aries season, as Aries is the first in the zodiac.

Now is the time to start projects, especially anything that is new to you. It is a time for hope, growth, and anticipation- fitting for the sign of Aries. Anything is possible, and optimism reigns supreme.

**This is the universal energy, that is true, however it is important to check in with how this energy resonates with you. While the collective may now be in Spring in the Northern hemisphere, you may be in a very different season internally. Check in with how you feel and what you need, and be sure to organize the proper supports accordingly.

Working with this seasonal energy is all about rebirth, revitalization, and renewal. It is about using the energy as a gift from the sun and growing our branches towards the light. It is about using the newfound motivation to recenter ourselves, to create balance in our lives, and to reach towards our goals.

To create relative balance in our lives, something has always got to give. We are not output machines, and we cannot keep piling task on top of task. In order to achieve our goals, we must also ensure we have the proper rest to counter that to avoid burnout, and also just because rest is awesome!

In a similar vein, in order to invite new, fresh energies into our lives, we need to spring clean out the old! This means both energetically and literally! Clear away the clutter in your home and your mind to make space for the new. As you physically clear your home and your space, contemplate what you can also work on releasing that no longer serves you. Maybe you write these things down, and them throw the paper into a spring bonfire as a symbolic gesture. This could be a particular relationship, or a habit, or a tendency such as negative self talk, or overextending yourself.

All in all, this season, as all seasons and cycle shifts are, is an opportunity for a fresh start, and new beginnings. This energy is accessible all season long, so don’t worry about any universal deadline. Let go of what weighs you down, and take the opportunities that light a spark in your soul. Remember, all plants you see start as a little bitty seed. Trust your process and know that what happens beneath the soil is just as valuable and valid as the growth that is visible to others.

Grow baby, grow. 🌱🌷
